Spring weather on P.E.I. is a mixed bag of everything, as these last couple of weeks have shown. But April showers (and showers and showers) will eventually lead to May flowers, and it’s good to have a complete refresh, inside and out, with your plumbing.
Here is a quick checklist of what to clean, what to check, and what to update this April!
Look out for leaks
A leaky bathroom or kitchen faucet can lead to losing 20 gallons of water each day. Take a look at your faucets and tighten up what you can. If the problem can’t be fixed it could be time to upgrade some of those items around your house. You should also check your pipes for leaks and drips. A small drip can become a big problem and, as with all home repairs, it’s best to fix those problems while their small.
It’s not just indoors that you should look for leaks. Now that the snow has melted, head outdoors to check for leaks in outdoors hoses and faucets
Prevent a clog
While you’re outdoors, wait for a nice day and grab a ladder. Your gutters, downspouts, and drains are easy targets for fallen leaves and other debris that need to be cleaned out. While you’re outside, check to make sure the water that’s near your place is draining away from your own home.
Moving indoors, it’s time to look back to your sinks and baths! Clean out your drains to avoid future clogs and even bigger issues. While you’re in the bathroom, show some TLC to your shower head. Dip it into some vinegar for an hour to clean mineral build-up.
Time for some upgrades
There are always some small projects to do around the house and ways to make your home more efficient. If your shower head is a loss cause, updating your component could drastically cut down on water use. At the same time you can look at low-flow faucets for your house and more energy-efficient toilets with dual flush fixtures. Every little bit counts!
